Most people don't realize how these little pesky creatures can damage a home. They find a way into your roof and dig in to your attic . They urinate and leave fecal matter in your attic which is poisonous / hazardous . If you have someone in the house with asthma it can be harmful to them to breath in. 

These are usually covered losses to your home . 
There is also vandalism from other animals , or even people at times. Roofers have been known to damage roofs for the purpose of making it look like you have suffered wind damages. This is another reason you have to be very selective about choosing a contractor . These losses are still covered under most policies out these.
